How we started: a Yellowknife story

Quality Furniture was established in the late 50’s by Yellowknife pioneers Johnny and Mary Rocher in the form of a humble secondhand store. Through Yellowknife's mining booms they nurtured the business and built strong roots in the community. With the help of their son, Les, they expanded to include retail furniture in the early 80’s.

Since then, Quality Furniture has become a second home for the Rochers. Les’ sister, Jeannie, now runs the store with help from her husband Yves and their two daughters, Jessie and Michelle. Even Mary still helps out with daily post-office runs.

Our staff are like extended family, some of whom have been with us for decades. We try to reflect our core value of community in our relationships that we make and maintain with customers, friends and family. (Who oftentimes are all three at once!)

Fundamentally, not that much has changed since things started in the late 50’s. We still want our customers to be happy with their purchases: not just when they leave the store, but in the years to come. We also continue to stay active in the community through donations and sponsoring a number of local organizations.

We’re neighbours, after all.

Thank you for shopping local!
